The Transition

After the Dust Bowl had run its course many families were forced to flee west. Under the leadership of the men the families loaded their Jalopies and started for the, “mother road,” Route 66. As families transition from their traditional lives they encounter new ways of settling. Like the Joad’s and the Wilson’s, families would travel together becoming one family. Like Grampa and Granma, some family member passed away, or some family members would find their on way like Noah.

As this transition took place these people took on new identities, for they became migrants. As they traveled they experienced hardship and unity. When they would set up camps along the road the women now, “migrant mothers” would cook and clean while the migrant men set up the tent and the beds.

Slowly but surely the roles of the woman will soon change as the men face odds of failure which makes them resist their traditional roles.
