The Motto

Slogan.jpg

Cracker Jack coined the motto "The More You Eat, the More You Want" in 1896 at its inception. It fed into the early beginnings of American consumerism and leisure culture in the early 1900s and for years to come.

In the novel, Ruthie yearns for more after only getting one box as a special treat. In fact, it is such a novelty for her that she spills the secret of Tom Joad's criminal past in order to stand her ground and hold onto her treat.
