~~~In Chapter 27, Steinbeck describes how the Joads got cheated by "crooked scales".  Steinbeck describes "Argue.  Scale man says you got rocks to make weight.  How's 'bout him?  His scales is fixed... Sometimes both; rocks an' crooked scales.  Always argue, always fight" (407).  But in the end, it is always the families lose the battle.  Therefore, these heroic icons are always being glorifying during that time for the workers need someone to do the justice for them.
